Under the general direction of the Registrar and as an integral part of the Registrarial management team, the Associate Registrar is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to a team of advising and learning support teams.? They are responsible for managing all academic advising services and directing Victoria College student academic success programs including the writing centre, learning strategists, tutoring, first year learning communities, and peer programs to provide holistic, seamless and personalized support to facilitate student success.? Identifying needs, opportunities and potential sources of funding for programs.?
The Associate Registrar develops and implements programs and models to fulfil the Presidential priorities relating to readying students to flourish beyond university, inclusive excellence in recruitment as well as student academic support for distinct student populations including those from international and first generation groups. Conducts one-on-one student advising appointments and leads group advising sessions. Determining appropriate advising approached based on the needs of Victoria College students, best practices in advising to improve student success and retention.
The Associate Registrar interviews, hires, trains and supervises, directs and evaluates the work of four full-time staff (three Advisors/Assistant Registrars and one Recruitment, Admissions and Transition advisor) and three CUPE Writing instructors. On-site supervision of the Accessibility Advisor and Learning Strategist. Developing and monitoring budget for writing instructors, tutors and learning strategist.? Works with the Registrar, to provide leadership and senior level support. Represents Victoria University at various faculty and student Committees, and at the University of Toronto.
University degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
7 years progressive experience in one or more of the areas of registrarial services, learning support, and/or career education.? Experience supporting students to facilitate academic success and dealing with students with complex needs.? Knowledge of academic advising best practices and student development theory.? Understanding of Arts and Science rules and regulations and the processes related to registration and fees.? Efficient and sophisticated data collection, management and experience with data analysis.? Experience running peer programming. Demonstrated experience collaborating with other offices. Demonstrated skills and experience managing and leading staff, preferably in a unionized environment.
High level of proficiency with various software packages (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).? Familiarity with ROSI or other the Student Record Systems. Extensive knowledge of university policies, procedures and services available for students.? Ability to work in a very busy student services environment while managing a set of competing priorities while still being able to provide a high level of service; diplomacy and tact; ability to work to deadlines under pressure; use initiative; flexibility; attention to detail and accuracy; ability to assimilate new information quickly; analytical ability. Ability to train and manage staff.?
